Content Creator Guide
Practical starting points for new and growing creators!
The Twitch Creator Camp explains how to go live, build a brand, find your niche, engage with your community, and utilize dozens of Twitch tools!
1
Getting Started
- Use OBS Studio and its Auto-Configuration Wizard for a decent default start
- Test your upload speed and keep bitrate reasonable
- Simple scenes like "Starting Soon" / "Game" / "Break" / "Ending"
2
Audio
- Use a condenser mic
- Balance audio mix with your microphone slightly louder than the video game or other sources
3
Camera & Lighting
- Using a camera is not required!
- Set capture resolution to match stream's output to avoid upscaling issues
- Frame camera near eye level
- One key light above eye level looks great
- Avoid bright lights directly behind you
4
Branding
- Your overlay doesn't need to be overly elaborate, but intentional
- Pick 3 brand colors and 3 fonts to use across your overlay, panels, thumbnails
- Keep images, alert boxes, camera borders, panels simple and skimmable
- Use the same username across social media and gaming platforms
5
Consistency
- Stream on an announced schedule, even just once a week!
- Keep conversing about topics that interest you, even if chat is slow to respond
- Reply to new and recurring chatters to help encourage return visits
- Raid and host other fellow StreamNYC members
